Day / Month / Year - Natalie Woodward
Film
10 minutes
Day / Month / Year Ìýis a visual representation of a difficult time in my life through the lens of my old journal entries. I chose to keep one consistent shot throughout the film, mainly focusing on the mirror reflecting a larger point of view. The unmoving camera represents the monotony of depression, while the mirror represents the out-of-body feeling I had during that time.Ìý

My name is Natalie Woodward. I am from Bethesda, Maryland, but am currently finishing up my senior year at the University of Colorado, Boulder. I primarily focus on digital art, balancing graphic design and video production. My work typically explores themes of finding beauty in everyday life, and shows an appreciation for the little things around us. I am currently working on fine tuning my video skills by filming a mix of documentaries as well as more scripted content.Ìý

Day / Month / Year
This film was guided by old journal entries I wrote during a very difficult time in my life. My goal was to illustrate that feeling of depression through metaphorical visuals. The camera doesn’t move from the established shot, showing the monotonous feeling of each day. Having the main visuals reflected in the mirror represents the feeling of dissociation, or feeling like you’re watching yourself walk through the day. While other people are mentioned or heard throughout the piece, none are introduced in the frame. This highlights the feeling of loneliness. By revisiting this difficult time in my life and turning it into art, I hope to open a dialogue around mental health and vulnerability.
