The Faure Festival -ÌýNew American Music: “Hommage à Fauréâ€
March 1, 2024, 7:30 p.m.
Grusin Music Hall
The Fauré Centennial Festival, directed by Carlo Caballero (University of Colorado, Boulder campus) and Stephen Rumph (University of 91´ó»ÆѼ, Seattle campus) commissioned nine new musical works by American composers to place Gabriel Fauré’s legacy in a forward-looking perspective. On Wednesday, 28 February, a composers’ round-table discussion will take place (Imig S102, 7:30-9:00 pm), and on Friday, 1 March, the nine new works will receive their premieres.
With our own Carter Pann presiding, the round-table will allow the composers involved to converse informally about their new pieces and the Fauré project. David Conte and Emile Serper hail from the Bay Area; Amanda Harberg from New Brunswick, New Jersey; Stacy Garrop from Evanston, Illinois; and Charles Shadle from Boston. Carter Pann, Blake Clawson, Abby Kellems, and Keenan Powell are all Colorado composers. All of them will be present in the audience on 1 March for their premieres.
